MILLENNIUM Discussion Questions
Discussion Questions covering Varley’s MILLENNIUM:
What method of time travel does Varley employ in this story? Hint: It is not rotating cylinders, wormholes, or cosmic-strings and it involves changing the past.
One of the primary topics to be discussed will be the disconnect between the novel and the movie. Since the plot elements contained in the movie and the novel are so similar, (Varley even wrote the screenplay), to what do we account the failure of the movie to entertain when the novel succeeds to brilliantly?
Is Kris Kristopherson a good Bill Smith?
Is Cheryl Ladd a good Louise Baltimore?
Is Danial J. Travanti a good Arnold Mayer?
Is Sherman credible as seen in the movie?
Why does Louise drive a Cadillac instead of an Italian exotic?
Why does the council chamber look so hokey?
Are the special effects inadequate?
What makes the book so effective? Is it simply Varley’s way with characters?
Does it bother you that the time travel in MILLENNIUM is not scientific as defined by Dr. Paul Nahin?
Does the happy ending really fit?
