2004 Awards Banquet

The date for this years awards banquet has been set for November 6th. This is one you won't want to miss as we acknowledge the accomplishments of our distinguished members. The location has yet to be decided.

Also on the evening's agenda will be a wrap up of THE ARMS OF KRUPP and a discussion of the final book in Harry Turtledove's The Great War series: BREAKTHROUGHS.

I have achieved a personal breakthrough: After over four years of effort I have finally come across a method of translating the maps of Gaea from MacDraw Pro into files readable on a PC. This just in time for the upcoming reading of John Varley's TITAN. I now plan to create a separate site devoted to all things Varley, that will house these maps, and the notes I have been assembling for a future guide book; to be titled Varley Vade mecum (look it up). These maps are in need of a revision. Let's use this reading to make notes of errors and ommissions. I would like to settle on a single style for these maps. I am leaning toward one that shows the topography realistically in shaded relief.

I would like to see a list of books people consider their paradigm shifters. I intend to post the list later. I would also like to compile a list of the books we consider essential in defining our group. Authors like Varley, Wolfe and Niven immediately come to mind. Perhaps I am thinking about the same list here. I know I would point people to my "Ranked List," but that is just the opinion of one person, and it only lists SF novels. I would like to incorporate the diverse opinions of the entire group in this list, and make it an official list of recommended books. Give it some thought.

The next meeting will be October 9th.
Current book: Turtledove's BREAKTHROUGHS.
Next book: Varley's TITAN.

Readers read. Do you?
