Frodo Lives! LOTR Movie Marathon Redux
For Immediate Release......
On December 15th 2003 New Line Cinema presented all three LORD OF THE RINGS (LOTR) movies in select theaters in one long marathon showing. This was to celebrate the release of the last chapter THE RETURN OF THE KING (RK). The extended versions of first two, THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE RINGS (FR), and THE TWO TOWERS* (TT) were shown, but only the regular version of the last movie RK, was screened at the time. Now, almost two years later, DVD fans can watch them all in their extended glory.
*The theatrical extended cuts were 208 minutes for FR, and 214 minutes for TT (note that the extended DVD version of TT runs 223 minutes).
To celebrate this capability, and to commemorate the two year anniversary of the original movie marathon, the Fictionados will be hosting a marathon showing of all three extended versions of the LOTR movies. This event will take place on Saturday December 17th, 2005. We will start at 9:00 AM and will show the movies for 12 hours straight**, until 9:00 PM. We will be renting a HiDef LCD Projector and an 8 foot screen, and will have a darkened room to maximize the impact of these films in all their widescreen splendor. We are working on practical ways to reduce the interruptions for all who attend so that viewers can devote all their attention to this epic, shown as it should be, in one continuous video stream. We will cater the food so that marathoners can eat while they watch. The cost of the equipment rental will be split among the viewers. Individual cost of the event depends on the number of viewers, and the quality of food desired, but should be $15 -$25 per person.
**FR 208 min. + TT 223 min. + RK 251 min. = 682 min. = 11 hours 22 minutes. We plan to have two short 19 minute breaks between the movies bringing the event time up to a full 12 hours.
Show times:
FR: 3 hr 28 min (9:00 AM - 12:28 PM)
TT: 3 hr 43 min (12:47 PM - 4:30 PM)
RK: 4 hr 11 min (4:49 PM - 9:00 PM)
