ALTERED CARBON muse
I am doing some recon reading. I picked up several books in Oregon at Powell's.
Richard K. Morgan's ALTERED CARBON is Varley calibre. In fact, one almost has to be familiar with the possibilities of cloning and memory recording Varley has so well explored in his Eight-Worlds series in order to fully appreciate it. In an ironic sort of way, this book is a Varley clone, especially since it is reported that his next EW novel will be about a private-eye. It seems that Morgan has beaten him to the punch. I plan to post a full review when I have completed the book, but suffice to say, that it is one of the best SF books I have ever read.
