THE INVISIBLE WAR; Dark Space 2 by Jasper T. Scott

Narrated by William Dufris

      Performance by William Dufris

I listened to this a part of my quest to find the next great SF series. And while the first two Dark Space books are quite enjoyable and better than some others I have sampled recently in the Military SF genre, it is not the next big thing for me. At this point I am still looking for the next big thing.

I am learning that I really like William Dufris as a narrator. He puts so much emotion and inflection into his performance that he makes the listening experience into more than just a duplication of your own internal voice in your head that your hear when you read. With a performer like Dufris listening to an audiobook becomes almost a different genre; akin to the comparison that can be made between reading a Science Fiction novel and watching a movie based on that same book. The story is the same, as is the plot, but they are not equal. The old cliché, “The book is better than the movie,” could have no meaning if the two were the actually equivalent. So there are audiobooks narrated by a straight reader; these closely approximating the reading experience. And then there are audiobooks narrated by a true performer elevating the book into a whole different level of entertainment. William Dufris is such a performer.
